Attachment problems develop due to disruptions in the caregiver–child relationship in infancy, such as caregiver depression, the unavailability of a caregiver, abuse, or frequent changes in caregiver.
Attachment issues can manifest in several ways, including withdrawal, clingy behavior, controlling the caregiver, being overly social with strangers, difficulty regulating emotions, or fear of the caregiver. Family therapy helps the child heal — including meeting the child at their developmental age rather than their chronological age.
