About Dr. Knapp

Helping youth and families thrive

I’m passionate about working with children, adolescents, and families — and helping clients succeed at home, at school, and in life.

Dr. Courtney Knapp earned a doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Argosy University, Orange County, and holds a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University, Northridge, where she graduated with honors. She is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of California (PSY 25271), a Registered Play Therapist (RPT) and Registered Play Therapist–Supervisor (RPT-S) through the Association for Play Therapy, and holds a certificate in Play Therapy from UC San Diego Extension.

Dr. Knapp has spent her career treating children, adolescents, and families. She uses a problem-solving approach aimed at targeting each client’s specific concerns — and believes families don’t need to be in treatment indefinitely to see meaningful, lasting change.

How I work

My approach

Warm & relational

Kids and parents need to feel safe and understood before real change can happen. That comes first.

Direct & goal-oriented

I focus on your family’s specific concerns and work toward clear goals — most often in a year or less.

Play-informed

Children communicate through play. I meet them where they are, at their developmental age.
